Funeral service for June D. Niska, 91, of Gilbert, will be 1:00pm Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Community United Methodist Church in Gilbert with Pastor Mickey Olson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. She died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at St. Michael’s Health and Rehab in Virginia, MN. June was born June 14, 1923 in Forest Lake, Minnesota to Henry and Cecile (Morehouse) Hanson. She was a 1941 graduate of Eveleth High School and later married Ray Niska on June 22, 1946 in Duluth, MN. They moved to Sparta where June raised her family and was a homemaker. She was a resident of Sparta for over sixty years and currently has been a resident of Gilbert for the past seven years. June was an active member of Community United Methodist Church in Gilbert, its Eva Kieren Circle and was an active participant in its pasty sales. She was a member of the Gilbert Senior Citizens, an AEOA volunteer and of the “Third Floor 7’o clock Girls Club.” Her hobbies included baking, gardening, quilting, creating family photo albums, couponing and shopping. She cherished time spent with her family; especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters: Darlene (Terry) Morical of Brandon, MN, Dorothy “Doods” (Terry) Mikulich of Pine City, MN, Delores “Bubs” (Joe) Heitzman of Gilbert and Debbie Fish of Gilbert; son, Sam Niska of Downers Grove, Illinois; grandchildren: Ricky, Chelle (Steve), Dianna (Travis), Mark (Chris), Matthew (Angie), Michael, Cory (Meridith), Book’em (Jen), Brad, Courtney (Mike); great grandchildren: Brooke, Kendra, Ericka, Ryan, McKenzie, Qadry, Ava, Ryder, Ian, Adrianna, Reese, Natalie, Blake, Callie, Carter, Thor and Malina; sisters: Jeri (Ray) Larson, Joanne (Jerry) Aune, Chickie (Sonny) Nelson and Toddy (Tom) Wahlen; sisters-in-law: Barb Hanson and Bim Kiukas; many nieces and nephews She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; son-in-law, John Fish; brothers: Hank and Jim Hanson; sister, Jean Hallmark.
