Mass of Christian Burial for Geraldine “Gerry” Rose King, 93, of Hoyt Lakes will be 10 am Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes with Fr. Eamonn Boland celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Duluth. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Geraldine died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Northland Village Assisted Living in Hoyt Lakes. Gerry was born on December 5, 1921 to Earl and Agnes (Guitar) Fechner in Duluth. She grew up and attended school in West Duluth, graduating from the Denfeld High School, Class of 1940. Following school, she worked at various jobs in Duluth until her marriage to Leo Cogley. Following Leo’s death, Gerry married Harold “Bud” King. The couple lived in Aurora and then moved to Hoyt Lakes. Gerry had been employed as a secretary for Erie Mining until her retirement after 25+ years of service. She was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes and the Hoyt Lakes Sr. Bowling League. Gerry enjoyed the outdoors, especially the time spent at the cabin that she and Leo shared. Survivors include one brother: Wallace Fechner of Bullhead City, AZ; five nieces and nephews: Earl (Diana) Fechner of Gary New Duluth, Kathleen Sewell of Colorado Springs, CO, Scott Fechner of Superior, WI, Colleen (Hans “Gerry’s love”) Loraas of Canyon, MN, and Michael Fechner of Myrtle Beach, SC; numerous great nieces and nephews; and her loving friends “The Brats”: Darlene Maki, Mary Blaisdell, Kathy Chenevert, and Pat Chlebowski. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leo Cogley and Harold King; her parents; and her beloved dog, Suzie.
