Funeral Mass for Lawrence “Larry” A. Houdek, 76, of Aurora will be 10 am Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Aurora with Fr. Eamonn Boland Celebrant. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Wednesday (TODAY) at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and will continue one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Larry died Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora. He was born on October 29, 1938 to Alvin and Lorraine (Tanner) Houdek in Iowa City, IA. He grew up and attended school in Iowa. Following school, he moved to the Iron Range and began working for Erie Mining Company in 1956 and retiring from LTV Steel after 40 years of service. On February 6, 1960 Larry was united in marriage to Carol Albright at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes. Larry was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the former Aurora Moose Lodge. Larry enjoyed motorcycling, rebuilding classic cars, working with his hands, and his hobby farm. He especially enjoyed his family and being a grandpa and great-grandpa. Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Carol; children: Scott (Pam) Houdek of Tiffin, IA, Mary (John) Haw of Milaca, MN, Kim (Paul) Batsche of Anoka, MN, and Randy (Diane) Houdek of Hoyt Lakes; twenty grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild to be; a sister: Esther Houdek of Janesville, WI; daughter-in-law: Sharrie Houdek of Buhl; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son: Robert Houdek in 2014; an infant sister; and his parents.
