Funeral service for LaVonne M. Goodman, 66, of Biwabik will be 1 PM Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Community United in Christ Church in Biwabik with Pastor John Szarke officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Friday at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik at a later date. LaVonne M. Goodman, 66, of Biwabik, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 peacefully with her best friend and husband of 47 years by her side at St. Mary’s Essentia Health Duluth. LaVonne was born in Austin, MN on December 22, 1948 to Hartvig “Vic” & Doris (Holm) Chilson. At a young age her family moved to Tioga, ND. In her Junior year they moved to Biwabik, MN where she graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1967. Following Graduation she moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked as a bookkeeper. In 1968, she returned to Biwabik where she married her high school sweetheart John Goodman on June 8th. John and LaVonne moved to Palo where they carved a beautiful piece of property out of a wooded lot. In 1979, they moved to the family home in Biwabik, MN where she took much pride in remodeling and maintaining a beautiful home for her family. She enjoyed tearing down the old walls with her own hands allowing John to assist in rebuilding. LaVonne enjoyed many years working at the Biwabik Times, she was Treasurer for the United Church of Christ, member and gaming manager of the BACA, she enjoyed being a part of organizing her class reunions, and was a good seamstress when the children were young. In more recent years she loved gardening and maintaining a beautiful yard where she would enjoy many hours, she was also an avid Twins and Vikings fan. LaVonne truly enjoyed spending quality time with her dear friends who she loved and cherished. Above all, she was devoted to caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. Survived by her husband John, son Darren (Elaine) Goodman of Biwabik, daughters Jennifer (Steven) Albright of Ramsey, MN and Wendy (Rob Getty) Jackson of McKinley, MN, and brother Harold (Sandra) Chilson of Ely, MN. Grandchildren: Derrick Goodman, Kaylee Jackson, Alexis and McKenna Getty. She was preceded by her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
