Funeral service for Stanley G. Riske, 85, of Biwabik will be 11 am Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Fr. Steven Daigle officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded by the Gilbert Color Guard. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Biwabik at a later date. Stanley George Riske died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Essentia Health-Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. He was born on February 7, 1930 to Lawrence and Helen (Reszka) Riske in Nash, ND. Stanley grew up on a farm in North Dakota during the Great Depression. Following his schooling, he entered the US Army serving as an air compressor truck driver during the Korean War. Stanley was united in marriage to JoAnne Severson on May 23, 1958 in Crookston, MN. Stanley had been employed by Walker Jamar as roofer having installed many of the roofs at the area Iron Mines. He was also employed by B & G Roofing and Vidmar Steel during the course of his working career. Stanley was lifetime member of the Peterson-Lofquist-Bronczyk American Legion #160 of Biwabik. He enjoyed ice fishing and deer hunting. Stanley was also one of the last people to see the S.S Edmond Fitzgerald as it left the Duluth port on the fateful night of November 10, 1975. He is survived by his children: Dick (Kim) Riske of Amery, WI and Nancy (Patrick) Kiser of West Chicago, IL; one grandson: Shawn Kiser of W. Chicago; two sisters: Emma Homme and Marion Brownell both of Grand Forks, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife: JoAnne; siblings: Lawrence, Burt, Harry, Jack, Steven, Isabelle, Angeline, Stephie, Joe, Carl, and Louie; and his parents.
