Leon A. Boyanowski

Funeral Mass for Leon A. Boyanowski, 90, of Virginia, will be 10:30am Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virginia with Fr. Frank Perkovich as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at church. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Leon died Saturday, August 15, 2015 at his home in Virginia, MN. Leon was born March 2, 1925 in McKinley, MN to Leon and Anna (Gnall) Boyanowski. He was a 1943 graduate of Gilbert High School and later served with the US Army during WWII. Leon served in Italy the 361st Infantry Reg. 91st Division, and was awarded with three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars for his service. Following his military service, he attended Virginia Jr. College. In 1950 he began working at the Corsica Mine and later transferred to Erie Mining Company. In 1983 he retired from Hibbing Taconite as a Mining Engineer. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virginia and a Life Member of the Purple Heart and Disabled American Veterans. Leon was a true gentleman who was loved by and loved his family and many friends. Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: Clarence, Chester and Margaret.
