Steven D. Carlson

Memorial service for Steven David Carlson, 47, of Mt. Iron, will be 2pm Friday, August 28, 2015 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Pastor Clyde Harvey officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date. Steven died Friday, August 21, 2015 at his residence. He was born December 7, 1967 in Virginia, MN to David and Joy (Koivunen) Carlson. He was a graduate of V.L. Reishus in Biwabik and later attended Thief River Falls VoTech for airline mechanics and Hibbing VoTech for diesel mechanics. Steven began working at New London Warehouse in Virginia at the age of 19. Later, he purchased the business and owned and operated until the time of his stroke in June 2014. Steven was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, four wheeling, snowmobiling and camping. Survivors include his sons: Steven Jr. and Cole Carlson, both of Virginia; mother, Joy Carlson of rural Gilbert; siblings: Derek Carlson of Duluth and Paula (Alfred) McCargar of Hermantown; niece, Tatum McCargar; nephew, Jesse Taylor; best friend and mother of his children, Joann Spolar of Virginia; special friend, Sunny Thompson and her children, Caleb and Gracie. He is preceded in death by his father, David.
