Memorial service for Vernie “Joyce” Goodman, 89, of Biwabik, will be 10am Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik with Pastor John Szarke officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Joyce died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Ramsey County Care Center in Maplewood, MN. She was born April 7, 1926 in Roseau, Minnesota to Albert and Minnie (Hagen) Lein. At the age of 14 she moved to Biwabik where she graduated from high school in 1944. Following her schooling, she studied floral arrangement design in Chicago, Illinois and also worked as a waitress. On January 18, 1947 she married Robert Goodman in Biwabik. She raised her children while working in the housekeeping department for AEOA, floral arranging and retired from LTV Mining Company where she made the overtime lunches for 10 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making Beanie Baby clothes which she donated to the University of MN Children’s Hospital. Joyce was also a volunteer scout leader when her children were young. She was a member of Community United Church of Christ, the Biwabik Garden Club where she served as President, the Biwabik Senior Citizens, Women’s Life and the Biwabik American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her five children: Sandy (Joe) Plattner of North St. Paul, Kathy (Dennis) Grippe of Biwabik, Jim (Patty Davis) Goodman of Lindstrom, Kraig (Mona) Goodman of Blaine and Cheryl (George) Fazekas of Richfield; six grandchildren: Lisa Hengen, Theresa (Scott) Hodgman, Jennah (Mike) Hawes and Rosie, Grace and George Goodman; eight great grandchildren: Brett Swanson, Adam Hodgman, Jessie (Peter) Grundmann, Heather and Adam Hengen, and Sawyer, Lincoln and Everett Hawes; one great great grandson, Colton Swanson; brother, Milton (Shelley) Lein of Williams, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Alaine Fricano, great grandson, Shane Swanson; sister, Ardelle Perkins; two brothers: Stanley and Harvey Lein; and her parents, Albert and Minnie.
