Memorial Mass for John Charles Gervasio, 90, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 11am Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes with Fr. Steven Daigle and Fr. Peter Lambert as celebrants. Friends may gather one hour prior to the mass at church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer, Michigan. Military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. John died Saturday, November 28, 2015 at his residence. He was born December 5, 1924 at home in Ramsay, Michigan to Charles and Margaret (Omage) Gervasio. Following his schooling, he served with the US Navy during WWII in Hawaii and was stationed on the USS Kitkun as a gunner mate. Following his military service, he operated a Pepsi route in Michigan and later worked at a dairy. In the Mid 1950’s he moved to the Iron Range and began working for Erie Mining Company. He retired from there as an assistant general foreman. He was previously married to Dorothy A. Peterson. On October 16, 1991 he married Judy Isakson Bockwitz. John was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the Hoyt Lakes VFW Post where he served on its color guard. He was also a member of the Aurora American Legion Post where he served as past commander and was one of the remaining members of its Last Mans Club. Survivors include his wife, Judy; daughter, Deanna (Geoff) Swendseid of Steven, MN; several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Margaret; first wife, Dorothy; son, Bob Peterson; siblings: Rose Dal Ponte, Mayme Vescovi and James Gervasio.
