Funeral Mass for Mary E. Schmitt, 90, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10am Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes with Fr. Steven Daigle as celebrant. Visitation will be Monday from 4-6:30 pm with recitation of the rosary at 6pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the mass at church. Burial will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Mary died Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Essentia Health in Duluth, MN. She was born June 11, 1925 in Columbus, Ohio to Carl and Goldie (Rutherford) Feil. On July 31, 1947 she married John P. Schmitt in Columbus. In 1957 the family moved to Hoyt Lakes. Mary worked as a waitress for several years at Allison’s Café in Aurora. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Eastern Star, Hoyt Lakes Sr. Citizens and was a Girl Scout Leader. She served as past president of the Hoyt Lakes VFW Auxiliary and the Aurora American Legion Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed word find, crocheting pot holders and towels, camping, fishing and especially enjoyed time spent with the grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Karen (James) Stalder of OH; son, Charles (Donna) Schmitt of CT; grandchildren: Christopher, Michelle (Robert), Melinda (Jose) and Michael; great grandchildren: Nyasia, Jonathan and Llane; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Goldie; step-mother, Julia; husband, John; son, Edward; brothers: Carl and Frank.
