Twila Saloga

Funeral service for Twila Mae Saloga, 77, of Hoyt Lakes will be 11 am Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Reverend Randy Melhus officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Markham Cemetery. Mrs. Saloga died Saturday, January 11, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Makinen surrounded by family. Twila was born on June 1, 1938 to Charles and Kathryne (Harper) Current in Goodland, KS. She grew up and attended school in Goodland, KS and graduated from high school in Pratt, KS. Following high school Twila attended Junior College in Pratt, KS. Twila was united in marriage to Darrel Saloga on April 6, 1958 in Pratt, KS. The couple first made their home in Pratt where they started a family. In 1967, they moved to Colorado for fourteen years, until moving to Arizona where they later retired. While in Arizona, Twila returned school to pursue a degree in education, graduating in 1988, and continued to further her education by earning a master’s degree in counseling. She substitute taught for a short time until her employment with a Christian school in Mesa, AZ and later in Payson, AZ. Twila retired as a counselor at a battered women’s shelter in Payson, AZ. Twila enjoyed music, especially leading and singing in church choirs at the several churches she attended over her lifetime. She was also a member of a trio called the “Joy Bells”. Twila enjoyed sewing, playing Suduko, and crafts. She was a member of the Fellowship of the Cross Church in Makinen. She is survived by her husband of 57 year: Darrel; daughter: Tavia (Randy) Melhus of Makinen; six grandchildren: Miranda (Greg) Carlson of Bemidji, Ryan (Jessica) Melhus of Grand Rapids, and Micaiah, Molly, Amy, and Samantha Melhus all of Makinen; two great-grandchildren: Eli and Jackson Melhus and two more on-the-way; one sister: Marion McKinley of Norton, KS; one brother: Charles (Ann) Current of Cortez, CO; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Saloga; a granddaughter, Sarah Melhus; siblings, Jim Current, Carol Simmons, and Jean Current; and her parents.
