Funeral service for Dennis L. Winger, 63 of Aurora will be 5 pm Monday at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with John Jacquart officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Remer Cemetery at a later date. Per Dennis’s request, everyone is encouraged to attend his funeral services in blue jeans and a flannel shirt. Dennis died Friday, January 22, 2016 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. He was born on July 16, 1952 to Wilfred and Carol (Anderson) Winger in Grand Rapids, MN. He grew up and attended school in Remer, graduating from the Remer High School. Following school, Dennis moved to the Iron Range where he worked various jobs. Dennis was united in marriage to Darlene Gerlach on August 26, 1995 in Manistique, MI. Dennis retired as a shop foreman from Dyno Noble on April 3, 2015. He also owned and operated Winger Custom Cutting. Dennis was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycling, lawn mowing, and spending time with his friends and family. Dennis will be remembered as having a generous heart and a warm welcoming smile. Survivors include his wife: Darlene; two sons: Brian (Dawn) Winger of Mora, MN, Paul (Melissa) Gerlach of Biwabik; two daughters: Donna (Joaquin) Winger of Kansas City, MO, and Alberta (Jason) Gerlach of Aurora; nine grandchildren: Bradlee “Sport”, Ryan, Tori, Anna “Sparkles”, Jesse “Beaner”, Taylor “Jelly Bean”, Cory, Calvin, and Aaron; eight siblings: Mary Martin of Embarrass, Jeanie (Cliff) Wagenbach of Tower, Diane Larson of Remer, Pete (Lois) Winger of Annandale, Willy (Kathy) Winger of Virginia, Jerry Bill Winger of Aurora, Chuck (Lorna) Winger of Embarrass and Terry (Bob) Winger of Remer, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Clara Reno and his parents.
