Stanley Ferris

Graveside service for Stanley Edward Ferris, 84, of Hoyt Lakes will be 1 PM Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Forbes Cemetery in Forbes, MN. Stanley died Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora. He was born on September 27, 1931 to Elwood and Bernice (Young) Ferris in Hibbing. He attended school in Hibbing, graduating from the Hibbing High School. The summer following high school graduation, Stanley married Barbara Simpson on August 29, 1949 in Hibbing. The couple moved to Hoyt Lakes were Stanley was employed as a general foreman for Erie Mining. He retired from LTV Steel after 36+ years of service in 1994. Stanley was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes and had served as a trustee. He volunteered for many years as a Boy Scout Leader and as a State Certified Youth Gun Safety Instructor for over 40 years. Stanley also served part time as a Police Officer with the Hoyt Lakes Police Department. He enjoyed golfing on the Hoyt Lakes Senior Men’s Golf League. Stanley was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed duck hunting. He was one of the founding fathers of the Colby Lake Trap Club. Stanley was instrumental in the construction of the “Squaw Lake Hilton” on Nature’s Lake, formerly known as Squaw Lake. Survivors include his wife of 66 years: Barbara; four children: Tom (Carol) Ferris of Hoyt Lakes, Steven Ferris of Hoyt Lakes, Darice (Carol) Ferris of Sugar Lakes, and Glenn (Elizabeth) Ferris of Marshfield, WI; six grandchildren: Allyson (Tony) Ponto of Hoyt Lakes, Adam, Nicole and Travis Ferris all of Aurora, Mattea (Kassidy) Cook of Elk River, MN and Tabor Ferris of Marshfield, WI; five great-grandchildren; one sister: Donna Deslich of Chisholm and a brother: Donald Ferris of Los Lunas, NM; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
