Private family services will be held for Donald W. Takanen, 75, of Gilbert. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Donald died Friday, April 01, 2016 at this home surrounded by family. He was born on December 28, 1940 to Waino and Elcye (Saari) Takanen in Eveleth. He attended school in Cherry and Gilbert, graduating from the Gilbert High School. Following school, he was employed by Ron’s Body Shop until he eventually owned and operated, Tack’s Body Shop. Donald was united in marriage to Sharon Skule on March 31, 1959. The couple celebrated 57 years of marriage this past Thursday. Donald enjoyed deer hunting, trout fishing, and spending time at the lake with family and friends. He also enjoyed his time spent on bowling and curling leagues. Donald will be remembered for his zest and happiness in being with company of others and how much they enjoyed his as well. Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Sharon; three children: Duane (Debra) Takanen, Danny (Diana) Takanen, and Shawn Takanen; eight grandchildren: Willie, Andrea, Austin, Jordan, Taylor, Noah, Angela, and Tina; five great-grandchildren: Livia, Aubrie, Isaac, Kaylie, and Jayden; four siblings: Diane (Doug) Berentson, Kim (Gregg) Husted, David (Cathy) Takanen, and Walter Packala; numerous nieces nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, John; two daughters-in-law: Tamey and Wendy Takanen; and his parents.
