A Celebration of life for Robert A. Koivisto, 76, of Aurora will be held at a later date. Robert “Bob” Arvid Koivisto died Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. Bob was born on November 24, 1939 to Arvid and Beatrice (Maki) Koivisto in Detroit, MI. He grew up in Little Sweden and attended school in Nashwauk. On March 21, 1959 Bob was united in marriage to Gloria Covier in Nashwauk. The couple lived in Texas, Brooklyn Center, MN, and Lakeland, MN before finally residing in Palo. Bob had worked for the Ford Motor Company, Brookdale Ford, and finally Gulbranson Excavating from where he retired. Bob enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, photography, repairing and creating gun stocks and pool cues, being involved in drag racing, fishing, bowling, playing billiards, listening to country music, playing guitar, and deer and bird watching. He especially took pleasure in spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Gloria; two children: Bobbi Jean (Randy) Ross of Two Harbors and Brenda “Mouse” (Tony) Trast of Aurora; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five siblings: Richard (Bette) Koivisto of AZ, Randy (Camille) Koivisto of Stacy, MN, Barb Koivisto of Nashwauk, Rodney Koivisto of Washington, and Royce (Cheryl) Koivisto of Washington; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Poppe; and his parents.
