A gathering of family and friends for Samuel Hazen Maxwell, 64, of Aurora will be 5-7 pm Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Samuel died Monday, May 2, 2016 surrounded by family at his home. He was born on April 28, 1952 to Hazen and Leona (Virten) Maxwell in Eveleth. Sam grew up in Makinen and attended school in Cotton, graduating from the Cotton High School, Class of 1970. Following school, he attended Eveleth Vo-Tech. Sam was employed by Erie Mining and later LTV Steel having dedicated 30+ years of service before the company’s closure. Sam was united in marriage to Cathy Bennick on August 21, 1976 at the Eveleth Methodist Church. The couple made their home south of Aurora. Sam enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 39 years: Catherine; three daughters: Melonie (Kevin Haynes) Maxwell, Megan (Jeff Sartori) Maxwell and Michelle (Will Saice) Maxwell all of Aurora; three grandchildren: Zachery Lockwood, Tanner Maxwell, and Gabriella Saice; a sister and brother-in-law: Diane (Lloyd) Berger of Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazen and Leona Maxwell and a brother, John Maxwell. “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.
