Thomas A. Johnson

A gathering of family and friends of Thomas Albert Johnson, 74, of Aurora, will take place on June 9, 2016 from 5 pm until the 6pm remembrance service at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Following the service, all are invited to the Aurora Community building for food and refreshments. Following a recent diagnosis with cancer, he died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 surrounded by family and music in his home. Thomas was born February 28, 1942 in Soudan, MN to Emil and Elsie (Waris) Johnson. He was a graduate of Embarrass High School and later enlisted and served as a Radio Relay and Carrier Operator in Korea, then completed his service time in the Army Reserve. Later, he worked as an iron worker and in building maintenance at the Aurora Hospital. On August 9, 1990, he married Kristen Kronfuss in Virginia, MN. Most of his years were spent as a building maintenance foreman for St. Louis County, retiring from there in 2004. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, spending time with his family, listening to music and playing his piano and organ. Survivors include his wife, Kristen; Children: Gina (Ryan) Holcomb of Minneapolis, Tommy (Amy) Johnson of Stillwater, Amy (Curtis) Peterson of Aurora, and Jimmy Johnson of Aurora; Step-children: Karen (Carter) Beauford and Sarah Norris of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jason (Crystal) Chopp of Ely, and David Chopp of Aurora; Grandchildren: Elizabeth, Garrett, Abbie, Brady, Matthew, Michael, Jonny, Josh, Nadja, Marcus, Hannah, Benjamin, Fletcher and Amelia; Siblings: MaryAnn (Jerry) Molick of Britt and Kathy (Dale) Mostad of Eveleth; several nieces and nephews and his canine companion Gertie. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Billy, Stanley, Betty and Joyce.
