Memorial Service for Ronald James Holte, 73, of Makinen will be 11 am Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Palo Congregational Church with Pastor Jerry Kosanovich officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Bethany Cemetery in Hermantown at a later date. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Ronald died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora. He was born on October 24, 1942 to Melvin and Esther (Lindquist) Holte in Duluth. Ronald was united in marriage to Mary Ann Swanson on August 24, 1968. Ronald had been employed as a track boss for US Steel-Minntac, was self employed as a carpenter and had worked at the Anchor Lake Wayside Rest in Central Lakes. Ronald was a member of the Palo Congregational Church, and retired as a volunteer for the Makinen Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting partridge and deer, fishing, playing cribbage with friends and telling colorful jokes. He took the greatest pleasure in spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters, to whom Ronald was “Far Away Grandpa”. They were the light of his life. Survivors include his wife of 47 years: Mary Ann; three children: Keri (Glen) Erickson of Toiviola, Beth (Kevin) Kucza of Hermantown, and Chris Holte of Canyon, MN; his beloved granddaughters: Kayla and Alexix Kucza; three siblings: Daniel (Darlene) Holte of Sturgeon Lake, MN, Janis (Thomas) Holte-Pavlatos of Ocala, FL, and Allen (Maryann) Holte of Duluth; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special four-legged grand-dog, Kirby. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Holte, sister: Carol Berg; and his parents.
