Carol D. Bakkethun

Graveside services for Carol Delphine Bakkethun, 91, of Chisholm, formerly of Aurora, will be 10:05am Monday, September 12, 2016 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Carol died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. She was born on June 22, 1925 to Ephraim and Lindis (Erickson) Haggstrom in Cannon Falls, MN. She attended District 48 country school and graduated from Cannon Falls High School, Class of 1943. She was united in marriage to Herbert Bakkethun in Spring Garden. The couple lived in the Cannon Falls area until moving to northern Minnesota in 1957. Carol had worked at a bakery and an electronic plant. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and puzzles of all kinds. Carol was an avid sports fan, especially watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Carol will be remembered as a sweet and loving mother. She was a friend to everyone and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her three children: Dennis Bakkethun of Chisholm, Sandra Bakkethun of Krum, TX, and Linda (Fred) Batchelor of Smithfield, VA; four grandsons: Justin (Stephanie) Bakkethun of Chisholm, Tyler Bakkethun of New Hampshire, Christopher Batchelor of Ft. Bragg, NC, and Bryan Batchelor of Alexandria, VA; three great-grandchildren: Gracie, Lexie and Odin Bakkethun; one brother: Norman Haggstrom of Boulder City, NV; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; a granddaughter, Brianna Bakkethun; sister, Marlys Dunning; and a brother, Carl Haggstrom.
