Memorial service for Lempi Lavern (Tumberg Neuvonen) Keskitalo, 88, of Embarrass, formerly of New York Mills, will be 2 pm Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, MN with Pastor Donald Salo officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the New York Mills Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and the Karvonen and Sons Funeral Home of New York Mills. Lempi passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at St. Raphael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth. Lempi was born on November 24, 1927 to Albert William and Lydia Jennie (Fiskari) Tumberg in Leaf Lake Township, MN. She attended school through eighth grade and one year of high school in New York Mills. Lempi had worked for the Co-Op Store in New York Mills for thirty plus years and the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington until her retirement in 1993. Lempi was united in marriage to Verner Keskitalo on August 19, 1995. The couple made their home in Embarrass. Lempi enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing games, bowling, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Lempi and Vern once drove four hours to New York Mills to take a bus trip to Minneapolis to see the Twins. Lempi visited Finland twice and made several trips to Michigan and the western US. She was a lifelong member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church. Lempi took the greatest pleasure in spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her quick bright smile, friendliness, and her quiet demeanor. Survivors include her husband, Verner Keskitalo of Embarrass; three stepchildren: Aleta (Richard) Roy of Embarrass, Craig (Gwen) Keskitalo of Embarrass, Gary (Shari) Keskitalo of Alborn, MN; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother: Allen (Carol) Tumberg of New York Mills; three sisters-in-law: Margie Tumberg of Bloomington, Elna Tumberg of New York Mills, and Else Hepola of Bloomington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernie Neuvonen; three brothers: Wendell, Harley, and Donald; four sisters: Linda, Laila, Lydia Bernice, and Sylvia; and her parents.
