Funeral Mass for David E. “Hap” Patrow, 83, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10am Monday, October 17, 2016 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes with Fr. Peter Lambert as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at church. Burial with military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. David passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s in Duluth with family at his side. He was born June 16, 1933 in Effie, MN to David and Edna (Powell) Patrow. David was a graduate of Big Fork High School and later served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On July 9, 1960 he married Shirley Buccanero in Nashwauk, MN. Dave was involved in the logging industry in Minnesota and Montana prior to working on the Iron Range. He was employed by Erie Mining Company, where he became a machinist through their apprenticeship program. He retired from there in 1990. Following Shirley’s death, he married Elsie Bartness Kivi in Hoyt Lakes. Dave’s passions in life included family, friends, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed watching Minnesota sports teams on television, but especially enjoyed attending local sporting events as one of the “Grumpy Old Men” group members. He was an active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and held membership with the Aurora American Legion Post 241. Survivors include his wife, Elsie (Kivi); daughter, Carol (Tim) Wallace; son, Michael Patrow; step-children: Les (Pat) Kivi, Sandy (Vern) Hoechst, Donna (Steve) Dean and Curt (Michele) Kivi; step son-in-law, Bobby Turk; grandson, Ben Wallace; step-grandchildren: Amy, Melissa, Judd, Molly, Adam, Elliot, Courtney, Carrie and Anthony; 12 step great grandchildren; brother, Orin (Darlene) Patrow; sisters: Mary (John) Hollinshead and Sue (Joe) Johnson; sister-in-law, Gwen Patrow He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Edna; first wife, Shirley; brother, Sam; sister, Mickey in infancy and daughter-in-law, Sue Turk.
