David K. Liimatta

Funeral service for David Keith Liimatta, 63, of Gilbert, will be 2pm Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Pastor Eric Thiele officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30-7:30pm at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be at a later date in the Rauha Cemetery in Palo. David died Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Raphael’s Health and Rehab in Eveleth, MN. David was born November 28, 1952 in Virginia, Minnesota to Reino and Doris (Kilpela) Liimatta. He was a graduate of Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School and later attended Eveleth VoTech for two years. On May 31, 1975 he married Rosalyn Nosen in Gilbert. David worked as a mechanic for LTV Mining Company for 29 years and most recently for Bimbos Bakery as a mechanic. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Steelworkers Union #4108 and the Duluth Teamsters. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn; sons: Jeremy, Kenneth and Jonathan; grandson, Mikko; siblings: Connie (Jim Brown) McGath of Indiana, Donna (Jerry) Starc of Aurora and Shelley (Dan) Anttila of Palo; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Shirley Nosen; and his canine companions, Summer and Autumn. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
