Funeral services for Ardis Marguerite Harju, 95, of Hutter will be 1 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik with Pastor John Szarke officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Arrangements are by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Ardis died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the New Journey Residence in Eveleth. She was born on February 25, 1921 to Emery and Olga “Alice” (Nelson) Taylor in Perley Village, MN. Ardis grew up in Lakeland and graduated from Biwabik High School. She furthered her education at the Virginia Junior College. Ardis was united in marriage to Eino Harju on April 6, 1940. The couple first made their home in Lakeland on Lake Esquaguma before permanently settling in Hutter. Ardis was a member of the Community United Church of Christ and the Biwabik Senior Citizens where she had served as a past president. Ardis was particularly proud of the work she did on the Biwabik Township Centennial Yearbook in 1992. Ardis enjoyed baking, bargain shopping, Christmas decorating, hosting holiday festivities, monthly Biwabik Town Hall potluck lunches, and taking trips to casinos with her sister and sons. Ardis took the greatest pleasure in spending time with her family and keeping in touch with her siblings. She will be remembered for her kindness and her love of laughter. Survivors include her two sons: Richard (Peggy) Harju of Lakeland and Donald (Cindy) Harju of New Hope; eight grandchildren: Linda (Robert) Spooner, Connie Harju, Brandon Harju, Maija (Joe) Bolen, Nicholas (Casey) Harju, Heather (Josh) Tice, Kirsten Holmes, and James (Lisa) Holmes; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eino; son, David; siblings: Carol Maki, Joyce Kauppi, Vesta Kankaala, Leslie Taylor, and Grover Taylor; and her parents.
