Funeral service for Harold Walter Homola, 83, of Duluth, formerly of rural Gilbert, will be 10:30am Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 5755 Ryan Road, Duluth, MN. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7pm at the church and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Mr. Homola died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at his grandchildren’s residence surrounded by family. He was born May 8, 1933 in Sparta Location, Gilbert, to Peter and Ellen (Peterson) Homola. Harold was a graduate of Gilbert High School and later served in the US Army. ON October 24, 1952 he married Lorna Rasula in Eveleth, MN. Harold worked for J& L Mining Company prior to DuPont mining explosives as a truck driver. He retired from there in 1982. He was an active member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Survivors include his children: Bruce (Joy) Homola of Dayton, MT, Robert (Nancy) Homola of Gilbert, Brian (Susie) Homola of Grand Marais and Bonnie (Charles) Hallstrom of Calumet, MI; 30 grandchildren; 107 great grandchildren; sisters: Verna Ranta of Duluth and Edith (John) Meehan of Gilbert; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Parents; Wife, Lorna; Brothers: William, Fremont and Marvin.
