Bob had been employed as a mechanic and explosives truck driver for Gulf later becoming Thermic and finally Mesabi Powder. In 1991 Bob and Karen realized one of their dreams purchasing a lake home on Bass Lake, south of Biwabik. When they reached retirement, it was time for another life goal, “sell out to the walls and hit the road as permanent RVers.” The couple used their career and life skills for the next five years, working as “work campers” during the winter months at various RV resorts and campgrounds throughout the southern states, including Branson, Mo., and in Arkansas. Each spring they headed back to Minnesota to manage the Vermilion Trail Campground outside of Biwabik. In five short years at the campground they built a thriving business there, ensuring the visitors were “happy campers.” They were chosen to serve as grand marshalls in the Biwabik Fourth of July parade in 2007. Bob was an active member of the Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik where he was active on the pasty crew. Survivors include his two sons: Scott (Denise) Miller Colorado Springs, CO and Michael Miller of Aurora; four grandchildren: Nicole Franckowiak of Duluth and Nathan Miller of Richfield, MN, Ashley Miller of Fayetteville, AR and Justin Miller of Colorado Springs,CO; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
