Memorial service for Robert Edward Nisen, 79, of Biwabik, will be 10am Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Fr. Peter Lambert officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik, MN. Robert died Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Robert was born September 28, 1937 to Edward and Louise (Sever) Nisen. He was a graduate of Biwabik High School, later attended Mesabi Community College and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. On July 18, 1959 he married Phyllis Globokar. He began working for the Biwabik State Bank, which his family owned and operated. He later served as President and owned and operated it until the late 1980’s. He served as Chief Financial Officer for Virtual Money Inc. and later was self - employed as a real estate and insurance agent. Bob was a member of Alpha Cappa Psi Fraternity while at UMD. While in the banking industry, he was a member of Independent Bankers of Minnesota and numerous civic, community and financial organizations throughout his career. He was an avid archer and enjoyed deer hunting. He also enjoyed time spent at Lake Vermilion fishing. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; sons: Jeffrey and Kevin of Biwabik and Michael of Illinois; two grandchildren: Alexander and Andrew. He is preceded in death by his parents.
