Donald M. Markstrom

Memorial Service for Donald Melvin Markstrom, 78, of Stewartville, MN, formerly of Aurora, will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora with Rev. Jerry Kosanovich officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Don died Thursday, September 7, 2017 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN. Don was born June 12, 1939 in Roseau, MN to Melvin and Edith (Knutson) Markstrom. He attended Roseau schools and after graduation in 1959, he moved to Aurora, MN. On February 13, 1960 he married Susan DePaulis in Biwabik, MN. He worked as a millwright and retired from LTV Steel in 1995 with 36 years of service. Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In 1976, Don and Sue built their own home in the woods where they raised their three daughters. Don is survived by his wife, Susan of Stewartville; three daughters Cindy Siegle of Rochester, Debby Sykora (Joe) of Aurora and Greta (Joe) Jones of Rochester; four grandchildren, Sally Sykora, Aaron Sykora, Joseph Jones and Katherine Jones; sisters, Darlene Sparacino, Judy (Warren) Pillsbury, Nancy Faber (Ron Saatzer) and Kris (Dennis) DeGregor. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Edith Markstrom; sister, Sandi Markstrom, son-in-law, Steve Siegle and brother-in-law Steve Sparacino.
