Funeral service for Leonard O. Anderson, 88, of Aurora will be 11 am Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aurora with Pastor Donald Stauty officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Military honors accorded by the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Leonard died Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. He was born on April 17, 1929 to Arthur and Rose Anderson in Brainerd. He grew up in Brainerd and graduated from Brainerd High School, Class of 1947. Leonard entered the US Army where he served his country until his honorable discharge in 1952. He had worked in Brainerd for a few years until moving to the Iron Range. On April 2, 1966 Leonard was united in marriage to Marjorie Peterson. The couple lived in Pineville until making their home in Aurora. Leonard was employed by Erie Mining and later LTV Steel until his retirement after 35+ years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and woodworking. Leonard took the greatest pleasure in his grandchildren. He looked forward to their visits and enjoyed watching them at their school and sporting activities. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Aurora. Survivors include his wife of 51 years: Marjorie; son: Russell (Faye) Anderson of Brainerd; two daughters: Cheryl Senn of Eveleth and Michelle (Eddie Joe) Harju of Eveleth; grandchildren: Mike (Jen) Anderson of the Twin Cities, Nicole (Kris) Bildens of North Dakota, Christopher (Denelle) Tessmer of Eveleth, Skyler Tayler, and Lauren Harju all of Eveleth; Great-Grandchildren: Preston and Meredith Anderson, Trista and Noah Bildens. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Walter Tessmer IV; brother, Floyd Anderson; sister: Gladys Pederson; and his parents. Leonard’s family would like to thank his nurse, Christine Flannery for the wonderful care and love Leonard received during his illness.
