Reuben C. Mattfeld

Funeral service for Reuben C. Mattfeld, 89, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10am Friday, October 20, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aurora with Rev. Donald Stauty officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine, MN. Reuben died Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Reuben was born August 14, 1928 in Perham, Minnesota to Edward and Martha (Schultz) Mattfeld. He attended school in Perham and moved to Bovey, MN at the age of 16. He began working at the Danube Mine and continued working there for 26 years until its closing in 1971. Reuben transferred to Erie Mining Company in Hoyt Lakes. He retired from there in 1990 as a maintenance mechanic with over 45 years of service for Pickands Mather. Reuben served with the US Army from 1951-1952 during the Korean Conflict. He married Patricia Deutsch on April 6, 1963 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and many years with family at the cabin on Lake Vermilion. He enjoyed many family trips and happy times with family and friends. Reuben will be missed very much by Pat, his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Pat; son, Kevin of Roseville; daughter, Pam Hockert of Clearwater, FL; three grandsons: Jarid Hockert of Shakopee, Trevor Hockert of Eagan and Tanner Hockert of Tampa, FL; brother, Kenneth Mattfeld of Grand Rapids; sisters: Ruth Dotlich of Coleraine and Jeanette Vail of Racine, WI; many other relatives survive. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Martha; brothers: Alfred, Art, Leonard and Ed; sisters: Elsie, Florence and Elaine.
