Funeral service for Sylvia Mahovlich, 97, of Gilbert, will be 10am Monday, November 6, 2017 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Rev. Radomir Plavsic officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Gilbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Sylvia. Sylvia died Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Northland Village in Hoyt Lakes, MN. She was born January 13, 1920 in Lucknow, Minnesota to Eli and Mary (Radjenovich) Medich. Sylvia attended school in Makinen and later moved to Duluth where she worked for 3-M. On October 14, 1950 she married John Mahovlich at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert. Sylvia was a homemaker and a member of St. Basil Serbian Orthodox Church. Sylvia enjoyed playing cards and participating in and watching sports. She enjoyed fishing on Lake Winnie and Whiteface and never turned down a ride to Fortune Bay. Survivors include her sons: John (Rhonda) Mahovlich of rural Gilbert and Tim (Allison) Mahovlich of Ely Lake; three step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brother, Robert Medich and Sisters: Sophie Porthan, Katherine Bruzenak, Mildred Koller and Rose Rakovitz. Sylvia’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Northland Village for the excellent care given to her over the past years.
