Funeral Mass for Kathleen Saari, will be 10am Friday, November 10, 2017 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church (St. John’s Catholic Church) in Biwabik with Fr. Charles Flynn as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue for one hour prior to the mass at church on Friday. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik, MN. Kathleen died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at St. Raphael’s Health and Rehab in Eveleth, MN. Kathleen was born August 24, 1948 in Biwabik, MN to Peter and Mary Carol (Creen) Licari. She was a 1966 graduate of Horace Mann High School in Biwabik and later attended Virginia School of Cosmetology. She worked in Hoyt Lakes as a cosmetologist. Kathleen married Daryl Saari on November 14, 1969 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Biwabik. She continued working as a cosmetologist and later began raising a family. She worked as a school aid at Bray Elementary, served as a speech judge for the high school speech teams, and served as Election Judge for the City of Biwabik for many years. Kathy had a deep faith which served as a centerpiece in her life; she was an active member of St. John’s parish where she served as choir director for many years and taught Vacation Bible School. Survivors include her husband, Daryl; son, Jason Saari of Roseville; daughter, Michelle (Nathan) Saari of Minneapolis; step grandchildren: Alana and Lowell; brother, Jim (Robin) Licari of Gilbert; nephew, Ken (Shawna) Leiviska and numerous cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Pete in December 2008 and mother, Carol in September 2003.
