Mass of Christian Burial for Janet Marianne Oberstar, 69, of Biwabik will be 10 am Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Biwabik with Fr. Peter Lambert celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to mass at the church. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Biwabik. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Janet died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Essentia Health-Virginia. She was born on October 12, 1948 to Charles and Angela (Butalla) Oberstar in Biwabik. Janet graduated from Horace Mann High School. She furthered her education at Mesabi Community College before transferring to University of Minnesota-Duluth and University of Wisconsin-Superior. Janet had earned a Master of Science in teaching business education. Janet had been employed as a business education teacher in Duluth, Eau Claire, Birchwood, WI, and Chisholm. In 2003, she retired and spent winters in Mesa, AZ. She enjoyed spending her time volunteering at St. John’s Catholic Church, serving as their trustee and member of the finance council for over twenty-one years. Janet organized and coordinated several church volunteer programs. She served on several committees, was a Eucharistic Minister, and sang in choir. Janet also volunteered at the Biwabik Senior and Heritage Center helping with the A.E.O.A. monthly parties and taught exercise classes. Survivors include her brother: Charles (Susan) Oberstar of New Richmond, WI; niece: Dr. Jennifer (Arden) Olson of Maple Grove; nephew: Marc (Jody) Oberstar of Pulaski, WI; great-nieces: Annika and Rona; as well as numerous friends and cousins who were very supportive during her illness. She was preceded in death by her parents.
