Memorial service for Martha Julianna Hannuksela, 94, of Makinen, will be 10am Thursday, May 20, 2010 in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Pastor Michael Wefel officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Hannuksela died Sat. May 15, 2010 in the Virginia Convalescent Care Center. She was born Oct. 14, 1915 in Biwabik, MN to Otto and Matilda Kaskela. Martha married John A. Hannuksela Sr. on Dec. 15, 1933. She was a homemaker and long time resident of Makinen. In 1992 she moved to the Rouchleau Apartments in Virginia and lived there until 2002 when she became a resident of the Convalescent Care Center. Martha was a member of the Makinen and Virginia Senior Citizens. She was well known for her hand work which she received many ribbons and awards for. Martha will be remembered for her "gift of giving", handwork, and her Finnish biscuit, Kroupsa and bread. Survivors include her children: Lawrence (Susan) Hannuksela of Mt. Carmel, Ill, John A. (Sherry) Hannuksela Jr. of Embarrass and Julie (Dick) Greenly of Makinen; 16 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She will be deeply missed by her family but leaves behind a legacy of loving memories. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: John A. Sr., son: Ronald Sr., grandson: Ronald Jr. and seven siblings.
