Angela Smith

Funeral Mass for Angela Vesel Smith, 97, of Biwabik, will be 11am Monday in St. John's Catholic Church in Biwabik with Fr. Frank Perkovich and Fr. Steven Daigle as con-celebrants. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4pm with recitation of the rosary at 3:30pm in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Visitation will continue one hour prior to mass at the church. Burial will be in the Eveleth Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in the Virginia Regional Medical Center. She was born August 27, 1912 in Ribnica, Slovenia and in 1937 came to America. She married Louis Vesel in 1937 and lived in Eveleth until 1971. Following Louis' death she married Anthony Smith in 1971. They moved to Biwabik where Angela lived until the time of her death. Angela was a homemaker, a member of St. John's Catholic Church, its Council of Catholic Women and the Biwabik Senior Citizens. She was a long-time member of the Slovenian Womens Union Branch 39 and the American Fraternal Union of Ely. She enjoyed making apple strudel, potica and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was once featured in the "Ethnic Gardening" publication by Susan Price. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her resiliance and love for life showed in all that she did. She always gave her time and efforts to her family and others. Angela loved to be hostess and have family gatherings. Survivors include her sons: Louis Vesel of West Eveleth, James Vesel of Mt. Iron and Frank (Mary Jo) Vesel of West Eveleth; grandchildren: Joy Hill of Gilbert, Melissa (Robert) Reek of Iron, Joe (Lynne) Vesel of Britt, Mark (Amber) Vesel of Florida, Jamie Vesel of Minneapolis, Thomas Vesel of West Eveleth; great grandchildren: Jade and Jesse Vesel, Kodie and Brandie Vesel, Joe and Chad Hill, Michael and Justin Reek and Kristin Maki of St. Cloud; great-great grandchildren: Braiden and Alex Vesel and Jordan Lummel; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Louis and Anthony; grandson: Bryan Vesel; brothers and sisters in Slovenia; daughter-in-law: Arleen Vesel
