Joan R. Ferkul

Funeral Mass for Joan Rose Ferkul, 74, of Midway/Virginia, will be 10am Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia with Fr. John O'Donnell as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at church. Burial will be at a later date in the Gilbert Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Joan died suddenly Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Virginia Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 14, 1935 in Hibbing, MN to John M. and Alma N. (Sebo) Anzelc. She was a graduate of Biwabik High School and later married John Ferkul on March 10, 1956 in Biwabik. In 1961 they moved to Midway. Joan worked for the Virginia Public Schools as a special education aid for many years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and PERA. Joan enjoyed wintering in Florida for the past 15 years and prior to that enjoyed traveling by motorhome, snowmobiling and the outdoors. Survivors include her husband, John; sons: Gordon (Annie) of Fargo, ND, Mark of Duluth and Jon Ferkul of Brookings, SD; grandchildren: Ryan and Caitlyn; siblings: Carol (Ron) Dewhurst, Ron (Betty) Anzelc and Jim (Sue Grogan) Anzelc all of Biwabik; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
