Funeral Mass for Donald George Grivette, 81, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 11am Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes. Con-Celebrants will be Fr. Steven Daigle, Fr. David Forsman, Fr. Joseph Sirba, Fr. Eamonn Boland, Fr. Ronald Gagne and Fr. Ryan Moravitz. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6pm with recitation of the rosary at 5:45pm in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and continue for one hour prior to mass at church. Burial with military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Grivette died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at his residence. He was born Sept. 20, 1929 in Aurora, MN to John R. and Rose L. (Turk) Grivette. Donald attended school in Aurora and on Feb. 24, 1951 married Helen Velcheff in Ely, MN. He served in the US Army from 1951-1953 in the 999th Artillery Battalion during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he returned to Aurora and worked at Pre-Tac and later for Erie Mining Company as a service truck driver for 11 years. In 1956 they moved to Hoyt Lakes and in 1961 became a police patrolman. In 1973 he was appointed Chief of Hoyt Lakes Police, retiring in 1992 with 32 years of service. While living in Aurora, he was a member of the Paul Mogush VFW Post, served as Post Commander and was named one of ten All State Commanders. Also during that time, he was instrumental in organizing and leading the VFW Marching Unit. He was also a member of the Aurora American Legion Post 241. Hoyt Lakes memberships include: Queen of Peace Catholic Church where he served as usher, on the pastoral council and the liturgy committee. He was also a Life member of the Timothy Robinson VFW Post and participated in the military color guard. Donald was a Life member of the MN Police Chief's Assoc., the MN Police and Peace Officers Assoc. and member and Past President of the Iron Range Police Chief's Assoc. He was 33 year member of the Hoyt Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and served on the ambulance service. He was also instrumental in developing the first DARE program for the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes School System. Donald was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed bowling and was involved with the Hoyt Lakes Golf League. Survivors include his wife, Helen, children, Barry (Karen) Grivette of Hoyt Lakes, Renee' (Mark) Boudreau of Hoyt Lakes, ReaLynn (Marty) Anderson of Nixa, MO and Gina (Leslie) Soular of Dundas, MN, grandchildren, Nathan and Sean Grivette, Ryan Dahm, Christopher (Dawn) Anderson, Derek (Jenna) Anderson, Jenna K. Anderson, Amanda, Aaron and Hunter Soular, two step-grandchildren, Rachelle (William) Boudreau and Ryan (Monique) Boudreau, one expected great grandchild, brother, David (Vyna) Grivette of Aurora and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Joshua Anderson and a brother, John E. Grivette
