Joyce E. Kauppi

Funeral service for Joyce E. Kauppi, 93, of Biwabik, will be 1:30pm Thursday at Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik with Rev. Rod Slessor officiating. visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Memorials may be directed to the Community United Church of Christ. Joyce died peacefully in her sleep on Sat. Nov. 6, 2010 at St. Raphael's Health and Rehab Center in Eveleth where she had resided for the past 7 1/2 years. She was born Jan. 5, 1917 in Ulen, MN to Emory and Alice (Nelson) Taylor. She was a graduate of Biwabik High School and worked as a self-employed sales representative for Avon in the Biwabik and Lakeland areas. Joyce was active at the Community United Church of Christ, the Biwabik Senior Citizens, Biwabik Garden Club and the Lakeland Patchers. She especially enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with her dog, Inky and most of all, the color purple. While living in Eveleth, she always enjoyed playing a good game of BINGO, with the hopes of winning a quarter. Survivors include her sons, Forrest (Janet) Kauppi and Ernest (Jean) Kauppi both of Lakeland, grandchildren: Tim Kauppi of Minnetonka and Kim Sampson of Duluth, great grandchildren: Eric, Sarah and Allie Sampson, step-grandchildren: Robin Kilpela of Eveleth and Jennifer Swain of Rosemount, step-great grandchildren: Jessica Yurkew of Anchorage, AK, Matt Guski of Mpls., Abby and Emily Kilpela of Eveleth and Whitney Swain of Rosemount, step great great grandchild: Olivia Yurkew of Anchorage, sister: Ardis Harju of Virginia, brother: Leslie (Lois) Taylor of Duluth, special friend: Gordon Johnson of Duluth. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Grover Taylor, sisters: Carol Maki and Vesta Kankaala The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Raphael's for all the wonderful care and genuine concern over the years.
