Wallace "Bud" Whitman

Memorial service for Wallace "Bud" Whitman, 75, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10am Friday at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Pastor Barbara Hegfors officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Whitman died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Essential Health in Duluth. He was born Dec. 9, 1934 in Walker, MN to Thomas and Erma (Engelhart) Whitman. Bud was a graduate of Longville High School and later served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service he began working for Butler Mining Company and later married Grace Elj on March 1, 1958 in Remer, MN. They lived in Babbitt, Biwabik and most recently in Hoyt Lakes. there, he worked for Erie Mining Company as a painter, retiring in 1991. Bud was an avid fisherman, hunter and a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He is survived by his wife, Grace, daughters, Peggy (Kurt) Fallos of Nashwauk, Lori (Steve) Drasler of Aurora and Rhonda (Scott) Henry of Aurora, four grandchildren: Jason, Eric, Amanda and Janel, siblings: Richard (Margaret) Whitman of Duluth, Wayne (Pat) Whitman of Burlington, WI, Julie Marsh of Nashwauk, Dorothy Newman of Buck Lake, Linda Whitman of Nashwauk, Diane (Francis) Marsh of O'Leary Lake and Doug Whitman of Buck Lake, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger.
