Funeral service for Dr. Lee J. Sarberg, 81, of Aurora, will be 1pm Friday, December 17, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Aurora with Rev. Reany Lindberg and Rev. Paul Buettner officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Dr. Sarberg died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. He was born July 8, 1929 in Ely, MN to John and Sylvia (Alaspa) Sarberg. Lee was a graduate of Ely High School and attended Vermilion Community College. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, with a Doctorate in Dentistry. He enlisted in the US Air Force, serving overseas. Upon his return, he began his dental practice in Aurora. He and Marian Nygaard were married on August 30, 1958 in Little Falls, MN. Lee retired from dentistry in 1988 after which he worked as a tour guide at the Soudan Underground Mine and later as a sales representative for Thoele Dental Lab. He was an active member at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He loved music and was a long-time member of the Aurora City Band and the Mesabi College Symphony Band, and he was an avid supporter of Mesabi East athletics. Lee was a member of the Aurora Legion Post 241 and the Randall VFW Post as well as the Northeast Dental Society and the University of Minnesota Alumni. Lee was a gregarious man who made many lifetime friends. He deeply loved his family and enjoyed many years of fishing and fun with family and friends at his cabin on Rainy Lake. Survivors include his children: Peter (Susan) Sarberg of Alexandria and Becky (Scott) Sarkela of Grand Rapids; grandchildren: Stephanie (Matthew) Sarberg-Malmgren, Matthew Sarberg and Steven and Erik Sarkela; sister-in-law, Marcella Sarberg, brother-in-law, Elmer (Sherry) Nygaard, three nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marian and his brother, Glen.
