Funeral service for Alice Ann Begich, 91, of Gilbert will be 10 am Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Alice died Sunday, April 22, 2018 at St. Raphael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth. She was born on August 9, 1926 to Walter and Nancy (Haluska) Sherman in Crystal Falls, MI. She grew up and attended school in Crystall Falls. She was married to Stanley E. Erickson in 1945. The couple had three children. Following Stanley’s untimely death, Alice worked and raised three children. On December 17, 1966 she married Peter G. Begich in Virginia and had one child together. Alice had been employed at Ben Franklin, Eveleth Tree Nursery, D’Leon’s Café and most recently as a custodian for her church and the Virginia Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Virginia. Alice was an active community volunteer. Her interests included gardening, knitting, crocheting and rug making of which she was well known. Alice and her husband, Peter, were passionate about music. She played several instruments and sang. Together they would volunteer their time playing music at nursing homes. Alice will be remembered as a kind, loving , outgoing woman who always gave of herself to others. Survivors include her children: Doug (Mary) Erickson of Mt. Iron, Sheryl (David) Manos of Roseburg, OR, Kevin (Patti) Erickson of Bass Lake, and Nadine (James) Borget of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren: Stephen Erickson, Holly (Vance) Parrish, Ryan Niemi, Josh (Kari) Erickson, Parker (Gisela) Borget, Derek (Alex) Borget, Nicole (Jacob Hyman) Borget, and Katelin Borget; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Tillie Gulan and Belle Vukelich; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Stanley Erickson and Peter Begich; two brothers: Harry and Walter Sherman; and her parents.
