Funeral Mass for Anthony “Tony J. Omersa, 77, of Gilbert, will be 10:30am Monday, June 10, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert with Fr. Charles Flynn as celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday from 12noon-2pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue for one hour prior to the mass at church on Monday.  Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.

 

He died Monday, June 3, 2019 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

 

Anthony was born October 5, 1941 in Eveleth, MN to John and Mayme (Indihar) Omersa. He was a graduate of Gilbert High School and later married Kathleen Spehar on October 27, 1962 in Gilbert.

 

Tony worked for UPS as a delivery driver for over 30 years of service in the Virginia location. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Woodcarvers Association.

 

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed watching his grandkids sporting events. Woodworking, building cabinets and hutches and playing the button box accordion were some of his favorite pastimes.

 

Survivors include his children: Scott (Rosanne) Omersa, Lori (Earl) Fitzgerald and Tracy (Kurt Gulbranson) Sickel; grandchildren: Shane, Casey (Megan), Brittany (Anthony), Bradley, Kristen, Sydney, Kyle and Jacob; great grandchildren: Aiden, Grayson and Clay; sisters: Arlene Dicklich of Ely Lake, Val (Andy) Snyder of Ely Lake and Dorothy Vranicar of Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen; nephew, David Vack; son-in-law, Jason Sickel.
