Memorial Mass for Avery Victoria Straughter, 17, of Gilbert will be 11 am Friday, September 21, 2018 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert with Fr. Michael Garry celebrating. Visitation will be 5-7 pm THURSDAY (Tomorrow) at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue one hour prior to mass at the church. Inurnment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Forever Seventeen. A bright, friendly smile. A deep inner pain. On Monday, September 17, 2018, Avery Victoria Straughter died by suicide in her home in Gilbert, a direct result of her depression. Avery was born in Virginia, MN on November 15, 2000 to Krista White and lived in Gilbert most of her life. Avery attended Eveleth-Gilbert schools where she had just begun her senior year. She was an excellent student, a good athlete, and a friend to many. To her family, she was the best sister, beloved granddaughter, cherished niece, and a special cousin. Avery loved to be active and around people. She enjoyed the outdoors, the beach, boating, hunting, and four-wheeling. Avery loved dances, music, concerts, and just hanging out with friends. She loved sleepovers, although not much sleep was involved. Avery was very interested in sports, especially basketball. At school, Avery had been active in volleyball, basketball, NHS, VINE, and helping with youth sports. She had just finished her summer job at the Gilbert Holiday Gas Station where she greeted each customer with that beautiful smile. Avery is survived by a sister, Erin Haerer; grandparents: Pat and Kathy White; Auntie Kara and Uncle Keith Altobelli (whom to she only referred to as Auntie and Uncle); aunt Amy Vraa; cousins: Michael White, Nick Altobelli, and Justin Altobelli; extended family included many great-aunts, great-uncles, and second cousins that were a special part of her life. Avery leaves behind many good friends. She touched a lot of lives and will be missed and remembered by all. Forever 17. Avery was preceded in death by her mom, Krista White on May 20, 2013; and great-grandparents: Myron (2017) and Elaine (2001) Fahey.
