Funeral service for Bernice Ann Mattson, 84, of Aurora, formerly of Palo, will be 11:00am Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Deacon Mark Skala officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with burial in the Rauha Cemetery in Palo.
Bernice died Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Carefree Living in Aurora, Minnesota.
Bernice was born November 2, 1939 in Ashland County, Wisconsin to Bart and Edith (Kruzan) Carbon. She attended school in Mellen, Wisconsin and later worked at the local variety store in Ashland.
On August 8, 1959, she married Harold Mattson in Highbridge, Wisconsin. The couple moved to Palo where Bernice was a homemaker and began raising her family. She also worked for the Town of White/City of Aurora offices as a custodian for over 15 years. She enjoyed the social aspects of her career and spending time with her family.
Bernice is survived by her daughters: Sue (Steve) Blake of Palo and Julie Warren of California; grandchildren: Brad (Katie), Leah (Mike), Ashlynn and Evan; great grandchildren: Bailey, Owen, Ben, Oscar, Peyton, Abby and Felix; siblings: Mary Haderly, Paul (Sharon) Carbon, Donna (Ferd) Grage, Roger (Terri) Carbon and Doris (Glenn) Larson; numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bart and Edith; son, Michael (2009), husband, Harold (2012), daughter, Lorie (2018), siblings: Florence Motel, Rosemarie Zwetow, Ed Carbon, Sylvester Carbon, Floyd Carbon and Nancy Kusel.
