A Celebration of Life for David Daniel Akins-Miller, 62, of Aurora, will be held 11 am Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Immediately following a gathering will take place at the Aurora American Legion Post. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sons of the American Legion in Aurora, Minnesota.
David passed peacefully at his home through his sleep to our Lord in Heaven on July 25, 2023.
He was born to proud parents EG and Ingrid Akins who were happy to announce his birth on November 18, 1960 in Yakima, Washington. David joined his siblings, Raymond and Rosemarie. As a child he participated in swim meets, excelled in the breast stroke and won many ribbons. David was a good student and loved the Fourth of July fireworks, picnics and barbeques. He enjoyed telling jokes, family reunions and was adventurous.
David met Dean Miller and they were inseparable. They moved to Minnesota near Dean’s family and were blessed with many years of happiness.
David was a manager at the Village Inn in Virginia for over 30 years and was willing to cook, serve or host as needed. There, he made many lasting friendships. David was actively involved at the Aurora American Legion where he organized the Sons of the American Legion, the Wednesday night burger fry’s and prepared meals for family and community events. He had a great community spirit and was always willing to volunteer or organize a project.
Survivors include his father, EG Akins; sister, Rosemarie (Tim) Haight; brother, Raymond (Joann) Akins; niece, Sheena (Travis); nephews, Reggie (Jennie) and Anthony (Laurie); aunts, uncles and many cousins; brother-in-law, Tony (Joy) Miller; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Donny) Kleppe, Hazel (Rico) Maki, and Karen Miller; daughter, KayLa (Pat) Kaldahl; granddaughters, Kori and Kristin Kaldahl, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his husband, Dean Miller; mother, Ingrid (Ken) Alford; brother-in-law, Jerry Miller.
