Funeral service for Edward Clyde Baker, 77, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 11:00am Thursday, November 30, 2023 at United Methodist Church in Aurora with Pastor Barbara Hegfors officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora with military honors accorded by the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.
Edward died Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Essentia Health – Northern Pines in Aurora, Minnesota.
He was born June 22, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio to Charles E. and Rosemary M. (Richards) Baker. Following high school, he was drafted into the US Army in 1966. Ed served in Vietnam, Korea and Germany. Following his active duty, he joined the National Guard in Virginia.
On May 21, 1971 he married Karen Tysver in Colorado Springs, Colorado while serving in the Army. IN 1974 they moved to Hoyt Lakes where Ed worked for Erie Mining Company. He retired from LTV Steel as a millwright.
Ed and Karen had four children together and numerous grandchildren and step grandchildren. Ed was an avid league bowler in Hoyt Lakes, was a member of the Steelworkers Union 4108 and the Aurora American Legion. He was an active member of United Methodist Church in Aurora where he served on its boards. He was thrilled when he got to go on the military Honor Flight in May with his daughter Mandi. He loved any time he got to spend with all of his family. He enjoyed crafting – especially on plastic canvas, bingo, Yahtzee, sudoku, watching wrestling, jigsaw puzzles, cooking, and traveling – he was always up for spur of the moment road trips. Ed loved his family above all else and will be deeply missed. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; children: Amanda (Alan) Krueth, Jeffrey Baker, Andrea (Jason) Mishler and Jennifer (Zachary Edwards) Baker; grandchildren: Thomas, Brooke, Z, Zoe, Zariah, Zade, Emma, Hannah, Bryleigh, Clarissa, Hunter, Jaegar, Jasper, and Abrianne; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill (Jean) Tysver and Debbie (Terry) Hadrava, Anne Tysver, Jim Hadrava; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rosemary; his in-laws: Andrew and Amanda Tysver; honorary parents, Guy and Ruby Howard; brother-in-law, Wayne Tysver; sisters-in-law, Karla Hadrava and Marcia Tysver; niece, Jody Hadrava; brother, Tom Baker; step-grandson, Jaxyn.
Ed was proud of his country and his military service. His family asks that you please wear a color of our US flag to Ed’s funeral.
