Edward Lawrence Kobe, 100, of Gilbert, died April 25th 2018, at St. Raphael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center of Eveleth. He was born July 16, 1917 to George and Katherine Kobe in Gilbert, MN and graduated from Gilbert High School and attended the University of MN. Ed also served in the United States Army & upon returning to Gilbert, Ed met Marie Hoffer of Virginia and later married on November 15, 1943; the woman he would love forever. They lived in Gilbert, in the house they built on the corner of Summit St. and Indiana Ave., where they raised their four children. Ed was self-employed as a night-club owner (Knotty Pine), cattle buyer and lastly as the owner of the Knotty pine Liquor Store. He also had quite the green thumb and loved gardening, as well as fishing and most of all his love of animals, something he and Marie shared. He and Marie were married for 59 years & sadly Marie passed away on March 3, 2003. He was a devoted and loving husband. He is survived by his 4 children, daughters, Sue Arko of Shakopee, MN. & Carol (Jon) Bukovich, of Iron, MN. Sons, Bill (Barbara) Kobe of Crystal, MN & Edward (Linda) Kobe of Duluth, MN. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Marie. Parents, George and Katherine Kobe. Brothers, George, William and Ludwig Kobe, and sister, Katherine Kobe. Ed's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of St. Raphael’s for their care and support. Many will remember Ed driving his green pickup back and forth from Virginia to the Arrowhead Healthcare Center where he visited Marie daily, while leading a line of vehicles slowly down the highway. Ed is once again in the loving arms of his wife Marie and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. In celebration of his life, a funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 3, at St, Joseph's Catholic Church in Gilbert, with Fr. Michael Garry a celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert, MN. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Gilbert VFW Post. —
