Edward Kodunce

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert with Fr. Babu Mandagiri celebrating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church.    Interment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.  Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.

Edward F. Kodunce, 87, of Gilbert died Monday, November 13, 2023 at Edgewood Vista in Virginia. 

He was born on October 18, 1936 to Joseph and Mary (Mohar) Kodunce.  Ed graduated from the Gilbert High School, Class of 1954 and continued his education at Virginia Jr. College, having studied pre-engineering.  He then attended Michigan Technological University where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.  Ed began his career at Western Knapp Engineering, later known as Arthur G. McKee Engineering in Hibbing as a Design and Project Engineer where he worked for thirteen years.  He then was employed for Kaman Industrial Technology in Virginia.  As such, he called on, and serviced the area taconite plants as well as paper and lumber mills and various other construction companies until his retirement in 2001.

Ed was an avid woodworker and following retirement he was able to pursue his woodworking projects at his leisure.  Ed was a member of the Engineers Club if Northern Minnesota.  He was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert where he gave his time and talents, as needed.  Ed enjoyed gardening, fishing and helping others.

Survivors include his sister, Rosemary Kodunc; niece, Janet (Gregg) Olson; great nephews: Ryan, Jordan, and Alex; and great-niece, Lydia Olson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and John; sister-in-law, Marie Kodunce; and his parents.
