Floyd Duane Strehlow, 87, of Gilbert died Monday, July 1, 2024 in Virginia.
Floyd was born on November 2, 1936, to Irvin and Sadie (Neuvonen) Strehlow in New York Mills, MN. He graduated 1955 from the New York Mills High School. Floyd was united in marriage to Dorothy Dertinger on December 18, 1955.
Floyd and Dorothy began a new life together on the Iron Range, living in Lakeland. Together they owned and operated Strehlow Construction for over forty years. Building homes, operating equipment and excavating were his passion as well as working long hours. His legacy as a well-respected business owner in the area will be remembered by many.
Floyd also was a partial owner and manager of the original Giants Ridge. Floyd and Dorothy operated Strehlow Lumber yard in Gilbert and in Lakeland. They owned a gas station, operated Express Travel, and rented out store front locations to new business owners all in the City of Biwabik.
He was a dedicated member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aurora and aided and abetted in building the new addition for the handicap access into the church. Floyd supported Camp Seigal, a bible camp, for many family members to use over the years. Floyd enjoyed his family, as well as flying, hunting, skiing, playing cards and traveling with Dorothy. Together they explored many destinations including Europe and various Scandinavian countries.
Floyd is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 68 years; children: Daniel (Lois) Strehlow of Hastings, MN, and Kimberly Strehlow (Kris) Lillemo of Seward, AK; grandchildren: Lauren (Mark) Grimm, and Leigh Strehlow and Diana Strehlow, Hunter Berts; great-grandchildren: Marley Strehlow-Pagel, Logan and Eva Grimm; siblings: James Strehlow, Linda (Larry) Cline, and Mary Lou Strehlow; sister-in-law Marlene Strehlow; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon, and his parents.
Memorial service will be 11 am Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in VIrginia with Reverend Brad Felix officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in New York Mills, MN at a later date.
