Funeral service for Gerald Clarence Lesnau, 73, of Gilbert, will be 10am Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Fr. Brandon Moravitz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors accorded by the Gilbert VFW Post will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Jerry died Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. He was born June 12, 1945 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Clarence and Delores (Skuza) Lesnau. Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School and began working for Erie Mining Company in 1965. He was drafted into the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He specialized in radio relay and had 25 years with the 367th Engineer Battalion in Duluth. On February 26, 1966 he married Karen Poola in Gilbert. He continued working for Erie Mining Company until its closure and retired from there as a maintenance mechanic with 38 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked a short time for the Zim Sod Farm until his illness. Jerry was a member of the Gilbert VFW Post and the Virginia American Legion Post. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, but especially enjoyed time with his cats and reading and watching westerns. Survivors include his wife, Karen; sons: Scott and Michael both of Gilbert; brother, Robert (Diane) Lesnau of Hoyt Lakes and their children, Trevor, Trent and Tracy; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Donna Murphy of Gilbert and “the munchkins”, Shannon and Carrie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Delores and a brother-in-law, Michael Poola.
