Funeral service for Gladyce Mae Lampe, 96, of Biwabik will be 10:30 am Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik with Pastor John Szarke officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-6 pm Wednesday at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Gladyce died Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. She was born on January 26, 1922 to Erick and Lisa (Sikkila) Maki in Biwabik. She grew up and attended school in Biwabik, graduating from Biwabik High School, Class of 1939. On July 19, 1941 Gladyce was united in marriage to Toivo Lampe in Olympia, WA. She had been employed by Attorney, Carl Shuster as well as by Dr. Bray and Dr. Blackmore at the Biwabik Hospital. Gladyce ended her working career after serving as a secretary for Erie Mining Company for twenty-five years until her retirement in 1982. Gladyce was very active in the community. She volunteered at the White Community Hospital in Aurora. She was also a member of several area groups including: Biwabik American Legion in which she was a Past President, Past Matron of Biwabik Order of Easter Star #262, Past Grand Warder of MN Chapter OES, Secretary and Treasurer of Erie Salaried Retirees Association, Biwabik Sr. Citizens, Biwabik Garden Club, North American Benefit Association Review #32, AARP, Lakeland Fire Dept. Auxiliary, and MN Sr. Federation-Iron Range. Gladyce enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Survivors include her children: Judith (Robert Adelmann) Lampe of Bluffton, SC, George (Pamela) Lampe of Fairbanks, AK, and Retired Col. Timothy Jon (Cathy) Lampe of Cabot, AR; grandchildren: Michael Knott, Joshua (Tammy) Knott, Sarah Knott, Eric (Jennifer) Knott, Jill (Adam) Boyd and Troy Lampe; step-grandson: Thomas (Mitzi) Swift; great-grandchildren: Samantha Knott, Allison Knott, Marisa Knott, Laila Boyd, Chandler and Cody Knott, Parker and Addison Boyd, and Briana Knott; step great-grandchildren: Brittany Beyer, Blane Boyd, Hayley and Kinsey Swift; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Toivo “Tuggy” Lampe; siblings: Sylvia Peterson, Emil Maki, Lilian Isaacson, Elizabeth Klobuchar, and Helen Milos; and her parents.
